Right now the only way to record video is to Jailbreak your iPhone and install a 3rd party app called Showtime.
the actual video recording software pretty much Sucks though.
it saves the video file as an uncompressed format, and because of that you get HUGE file sizes for very short videos. Also they make you pay to unlock the app to record for more than 5 seconds.
that being said, to get the installer icon you talk about you need to jailbreak your iphone. best way to do that is iPlus right now.

once you have the iphone jailbroken you will see a icon called installer. from there add the source “http://www.polarbearfarm.com/repo/”
then refresh sources and then install “ShowTime”
go to apple.com and search iPhone applications
