The case I keep on in that Video is the SPECK. It is great. I had the same concern as you. When I have the JuicePack on it gives enough protection to make me feel comfortable. When the JuicePack is off, I just slip the Speck case back on. The hard cases are work in my opinion and will break apart if the phone gets dropped in the right spot.
The feel of that SPECK case is great and goes on and off easily.Get that and the JuicePack, U R good to go.
one of the factors keeping me from buying the juice pack is the fact that i have to take out my iphone from the case. the case on the video looks like the soft rubbery type while mine is the hard plastic type that’s actually a hassle to take apart. Is there a work around to this, or some other product that would accompany my needs better ?

That is 500 FULL charges. You can charge it back up from ,lets say, 10%, ten times, to equal only ONE charge. All the FAQ’s are on their web site.The site is really good. The users manual is also on the site in PDF. My Juice Pack has been going for almost 15 hours of moderate 3G use, and has not tapped into the iPhone battery. I will keep you posted.Not bulky at all.
wouldn’t that ruin the battery though? they say it only gets 500 charges or something like that.

Ya I just got mine today! Finally! I pre-ordered it early August and now it’s in my hand. It’s kind of bulky and smells like burning… But ya it’s cool!
